On June 3, a presentation event was held in Bucharest, Romania, to mark the launch of direct Baku-Bucharest-Baku flights. The event was organized by the State Tourism Agency, Azerbaijan Tourism Board, and Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Romania.
Starting from June 3, AZAL will operate two weekly flights on the Baku-Bucharest route, scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays.
Speaking at the event, Kenan Gasimov, Head of Staff of the State Tourism Agency emphasized the dynamic growth of tourism relations between Azerbaijan and Romania and the importance of direct flights in making Azerbaijan more accessible to Romanian tourists. He also highlighted that these flights will not only enhance tourism between Azerbaijan and Romania but also contribute to broader tourism cooperation with other European countries.
Javanshir Bayramov, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, underscored that launching direct flights is one of Azerbaijan’s strategic tourism goals and is part of the country’s extensive promotional efforts to position itself as a key tourism destination. He expressed confidence that the new Baku-Bucharest flights, along with targeted marketing and promotional initiatives, will boost tourist flows between the two countries.
Chingiz Mursalov, Head of Sales and Cooperation at AZAL, highlighted that Azerbaijan Airlines is among the fastest-growing carriers in the region, with a modern fleet and a steadily expanding route network. He stated that the new direct flights will strengthen ties between Azerbaijan and Romania while significantly enhancing tourism connectivity.
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Romania, Gudsi Osmanov, and Romania’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Vasile Soare, both emphasized that the launch of direct flights will strengthen bilateral relations and boost cooperation between the two nations.
The event was also attended by Mircea Abrudean, Secretary-General of the Romanian Government, along with Romanian government officials, over 60 representatives of the tourism industry, and media professionals. Attendees were introduced to Azerbaijan’s history, traditions, cultural heritage, and tourism potential, and had the opportunity to sample Azerbaijani wines during a tasting session.
Notably, Azerbaijan applies a simplified visa regime for Romanian citizens, making travel between the two countries even more convenient.
